01 Order & Customization Process
Q01 — How do I order my custom 3D figurine? What is the process?

Transforming your photographs into a three-dimensional reality involves four clear steps:

  1. Upload — Add 1–5 clear reference photos on the product page.
  2. Select — Choose your figurine type (Solo, Couples, Pet, Family, Bust) and preferred size.
  3. Modeling Refinement — Our Digital Sculptors hand-craft your personalized 3D model and deliver a high-definition 360° digital proof within 24 working hours.
  4. Customer Confirmation — You review, request any changes, and approve. Industrial-grade WJP full-color printing begins only after your final sign-off.
You see it before we print it. That is not a promise — it is the process.
Q02 — How quickly will I receive my 3D design preview?

You will receive an order confirmation email immediately. Our sculpting team then delivers your personalized 360° 3D digital proof by email within 24 working hours of reviewing your photos.

If the preview email does not arrive in your inbox, please check your spam or promotions folder. You can also reach us anytime via the live chat on our website.

Q03 — Can I place an order on the weekend? How is processing time counted?

Our website is open 24/7. Orders placed over the weekend are queued for priority processing on the next business day (Monday). The 24-working-hour sculpting countdown begins once our team reviews and approves your uploaded photos on Monday morning.

Q04 — Can I consult with you before placing my order?

Absolutely. Whether you want us to evaluate your photo quality, discuss a complex multi-person scene, or plan corporate bulk gifts, our Art Advisory team is available via live chat or email before you commit to anything.

Q05 — Can I order as a surprise gift and ship directly to the recipient?

This is one of our most popular requests. Simply upload the recipient's photo, enter their delivery address at checkout, and add "Gift — please omit price" in the order notes. All invoices and pricing are removed from the package automatically.

Q06 — What information should I provide for the highest possible likeness?

Three things matter most:

  1. 1–5 reference photos — a clear frontal shot is required; side profile and full-body shots significantly improve accuracy. See our Photo Guidelines for full detail.
  2. Correct product type and sizeSolo, Couples, Pet, Family, Bust. Full-body solo: 9cm / 12cm / 15cm / 18cm. Pet: 8cm / 10cm / 12cm. Bust: 8cm / 10cm / 12cm. Couples: 12cm / 15cm / 18cm.
  3. Detailed order notes — specific requests for hairstyle, clothing, posture, accessories, or base engraving text.
Q07 — What if my uploaded photos don't meet the requirements?

Our sculpting team reviews every photo before modeling begins. If your images are too dark, too blurry, or lack the angles needed, we will contact you directly within 24 working hours to request better alternatives — before any modeling work starts.

To minimize back-and-forth, review our complete Photo Guidelines before uploading. A clear, well-lit frontal shot is the single most important image you can provide.

Q08 — Can I modify my shipping address or order details after placing the order?

Yes. You may update your shipping address, size selection, or product notes at any point before the Customer Confirmation step is completed and physical printing begins. Contact our customer service team as early as possible to ensure the change takes effect.

Q09 — Can I order different figurine types in the same cart?

Absolutely. Mix and match — a portrait bust, a pet figurine, and a solo full-body piece can all be purchased together. For family group portraits of 3 or more people, a 15% group discount is applied automatically at checkout.

02 Photo Guidelines
Q10 — What makes the ideal reference photo for a 3D custom figurine?

Even, natural lighting is the single most important factor. Provide 1–5 photos ideally including a clear frontal shot (required), a 45° side profile, and a full-body image if ordering a full-body figurine. Avoid strong shadows across the face or heavy backlighting. Read our full Photo Guidelines for examples.

Q11 — I only have one old photograph of a deceased loved one. Can you still create a memorial figurine?

Yes. A single clear frontal photograph is enough to begin. Our sculptors apply intensive manual refinement to reconstruct missing detail — hidden facial angles, hairstyle, ear structure — with the utmost care and respect. This is among the most meaningful work we do.

Q12 — Do I need professional studio photographs, or will smartphone photos work?

Modern smartphone photos are perfectly sufficient. What we value far above camera quality is an unobstructed face with adequate, even lighting. A casual photo taken outdoors on a bright overcast day will often outperform a low-light studio shot.

Q13 — The person in the photo wears glasses. Can those be recreated on the figurine?

Yes — our sculptors will model the frames accurately. Please provide a photo where lens glare is minimal so the eye area beneath remains visible. If you would prefer the figurine without glasses, simply note it in the order comments.

Q14 — Why is a full-body photo required for a full-body figurine?

A full-body figurine replicates not just the face but body proportions, posture, clothing drape, and footwear. A head-and-shoulders crop provides no reference for these spatial structures. See our Photo Guidelines for full-body photo examples.

Q15 — There are other people in the photo I'm submitting. Does that cause problems?

Not at all. Simply specify in the order notes which person to model — for example, "Please sculpt the woman in the blue dress on the left." Our team focuses exclusively on the subject you indicate.

Q16 — Part of the face is covered by hair or in shadow. Will this affect the result?

Minor coverage is handled well — sculptors logically reconstruct hidden areas using symmetry and context. If coverage is substantial, please provide supplementary photos from different angles. The more visual reference available, the more accurate the result.

Q17 — For a wedding cake topper, should I send a couple photo or individual portraits?

Both, ideally. A group photo establishes relative heights and preferred pose. Individual close-up portraits of each person allow our sculptors to capture every facial detail with the highest precision. See Couples & Wedding product page for pose examples.

Q18 — Can I request a different hairstyle or hair color than what appears in the photo?

Yes — this is a standard customization request. Describe the desired change in the order notes and attach a reference photo if possible. The updated hairstyle will appear in your 3D digital preview for review and approval before printing.

Q19 — The photo background is cluttered. Do I need to edit it out before uploading?

No editing required. Our digital workflow isolates the subject entirely; background content is removed by our team as a standard step in every order.

Q20 — Can I use a screenshot or photo downloaded from Instagram or social media?

Yes, as long as facial features are clearly visible. However, social platforms apply significant compression which can degrade fine texture detail. Where possible, provide the original uncompressed image — it translates directly to sharper clothing and skin detail in the final figurine.

03 Pricing, Payment & Shipping
Q21 — Does the checkout price include everything? Are there import duties on top?

Complete transparency, no exceptions. We operate a comprehensive DDP (Delivered Duty Paid) model. Estimated import duties of $30–$60 are pre-calculated and paid in full to the carrier by us before dispatch. The amount you see at checkout is your total — nothing is added afterward, at the border, or upon delivery.

Q22 — Will I ever be charged additional fees after payment?

Never. The checkout price is the final price. Import duties are covered, shipping is free worldwide on orders over $149, 3D design previews are complimentary, and revisions carry no charge. We have zero hidden fees.

Q23 — What payment methods do you accept? Is my card information safe?

We accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express, PayPal, Apple Pay, and Google Pay. All transactions are processed through Shopify's bank-grade encrypted payment gateway, compliant with the highest PCI DSS security standards. Your payment data is never stored on our servers.

Q24 — Do you offer installment or buy-now-pay-later options?

Yes. At checkout, select Shop Pay or Klarna to split your order into 4 interest-free installments with no hidden fees. Spreading a $200 order across four payments makes starting your custom figurine journey as comfortable as possible.

Q25 — Are there discounts for bulk corporate orders?

Yes. Orders of 5 or more pieces qualify for exclusive volume pricing. Visit our Corporate Gifts page or contact our customer service team with your quantity, timeline, and packaging requirements for a tailored quote.

Q26 — Is there a loyalty or referral discount?

We deeply value returning customers. Refer a new customer successfully and both you and the new customer receive an exclusive 10% discount. Reach out to our customer service team for your personal referral details.

Q27 — How long does the entire process take, from order to delivery?
  1. Within 24 working hours — your 3D digital preview is delivered.
  2. Customer Confirmation period — typically 1–3 days depending on revision feedback.
  3. Production — WJP printing, polishing, and quality inspection: 3 working days.
  4. International shipping — approximately 7–12 days after dispatch.
Planning for a special occasion? We recommend placing your order at least 3–4 weeks in advance.
Q28 — How is shipping calculated? Do you deliver to my country?

We ship globally. Orders over $149 receive free worldwide tracked shipping. For orders below this threshold, shipping costs are calculated in real time at checkout based on your destination. Remote addresses in certain regions may incur a supplementary fee displayed at checkout.

Q29 — How do I track my shipment?

A tracking number is emailed to you as soon as your package is dispatched. Monitor real-time status on our dedicated tracking page. We partner with premium carriers including DHL, FedEx, and UPS for international deliveries.

Q30 — What if the figurine is damaged during international transit?

Photograph the damaged packaging and figurine within 3 days of receipt and send them to our customer service team. We will immediately fast-track a free remake with priority shipping. You bear no loss whatsoever.

Q31 — How much does a custom 3D figurine cost? What determines the price?

Price is determined by four variables. Here is the complete breakdown:

  • Full-body Solo Portrait — 9cm $219 · 12cm $279 · 15cm $329 (Most Loved) · 18cm $429
  • Pet Memorial Figurine — 8cm $199 · 10cm $249 (Most Loved) · 12cm $319
  • Portrait Bust (rosewood base included) — 8cm $229 · 10cm $299 (Most Loved) · 12cm $389
  • Couples & Wedding — 12cm $499 · 15cm $649 (Most Loved) · 18cm $849
  • Family Sets — 12cm from $279 · 15cm from $329 · 18cm from $429 · 15% group discount applies automatically for 3 or more people

Every price includes: complimentary 360° 3D design proof · unlimited free revisions · Design Guarantee · premium gift box · free worldwide tracked shipping on orders over $149. No hidden fees. See our Size Guide for display recommendations.

Q32 — What are the holiday order deadlines? Will it arrive in time for Christmas or Mother's Day?

We strongly recommend ordering at least 4 weeks before your target date. Approximate cutoffs for US delivery:

  • Christmas (Dec 25) → order by November 25
  • Mother's Day (2nd Sunday in May) → order by mid-April
  • Valentine's Day (Feb 14) → order by January 15
If your timeline is tight, contact us before ordering. We will assess whether priority processing is feasible — no guarantees, but we will do our best.
04 Material, Craftsmanship & Comparisons
Q33 — What material are your figurines made from?

We use industrial-grade photopolymer resin — the current premium material for high-end custom figurines intended for indoor display. It delivers an ultra-smooth surface, structural durability, and vibrant color that does not fade or chip over time.

Q34 — What is WJP full-color 3D printing, and how does it compare to sandstone or hand-painted resin?
WJP Color is cured internally — vibrant and fade-resistant. Sandstone absorbs ink poorly and fades. Hand-painting leaves visible brushstrokes.
WJP Ultra-smooth surface. Sandstone is inherently grainy and porous.
WJP Precision of ±0.1 mm — lace, individual hair strands, and watch bezels are all visible. Hand-painting obscures micro-details.
WJP Color is permanent. No sealing coat means no peeling surface layer over time.
Q35 — What does the figurine feel like to hold?

Smooth, warm, and substantial — often described as jade-like. The 15 cm figurine (our most popular size) weighs roughly the equivalent of a ripe apple: light enough to display anywhere, dense enough to feel genuinely premium when held.

Q36 — How long will the figurine last? Will the colors fade?

Under normal indoor display conditions, our WJP figurines retain their color and structural integrity for decades. Because pigment is cured into the resin during printing rather than applied as a surface layer, there is no paint to chip, peel, or fade.

Avoid prolonged direct sunlight and outdoor humidity exposure for best long-term preservation.
Q37 — Where should I display the figurine? Can it be placed outdoors?
Shelves, display cabinets, office desks, bedside tables, piano tops.
Temporary display at events, weddings, exhibitions.
Prolonged outdoor placement — direct UV and rain exposure accelerates resin aging and can damage the base.

Dust gently with a soft dry cloth. No chemical cleaners needed.

Q38 — Can I order a cartoon, chibi, or anime-style figurine? Do you only do realistic portraits?

Yes, cartoon and chibi-style figurines are available. WJP full-color resin is well-suited for vibrant, saturated cartoon aesthetics — high color saturation and smooth surfaces translate very well to that style.

That said, there is an important distinction in likeness accuracy:

  • Cartoon / chibi style — features are artistically exaggerated and simplified. Likeness similarity is approximately ~70%; you recognize the character archetype, not a precise facial replica.
  • Realistic portrait style (our core specialty) — we invest significant manual sculpting time in facial geometry, skin texture, hair detail, and clothing. Likeness accuracy reaches 90%+ — people who know the person recognize them immediately.
Choose cartoon/chibi if you want playful and stylized.
Choose realistic if you want "that's unmistakably them" — something worth keeping for a lifetime.
05 Revisions & Design Guarantee
Q39 — How many times can I revise the digital proof? Is there a fee?

Revisions are unlimited and free. We actively encourage precise, specific feedback — "please narrow the bridge of the nose slightly" or "the jawline should be a little softer." We maintain patience until you are completely satisfied.

Scope note: Free revisions apply to refinements based on the original photos. Requests to restart from scratch, switch to entirely new photographs, or completely redesign the pose after sculpting has begun may require an additional base modeling fee as the underlying structure must be rebuilt from zero.
Q40 — How long from design approval to receiving the finished piece?

Once you confirm your design proof, WJP printing, polishing, and quality inspection complete in 3 working days. International delivery then takes approximately 7–12 days. We recommend building in 3–4 weeks total for any date-sensitive gifting occasion.

Q41 — What exactly does your "Design Guarantee" cover?

If the physical figurine you receive shows a significant, objectively verifiable structural or color discrepancy compared to the 3D digital proof you personally approved, we remake and reship it to you at no cost. No forms, no argument.

Color calibration note: Digital screens vary widely in color rendering. Minor visual differences between a screen preview and a physical resin object are a normal characteristic of high-end 3D printing and fall outside the guarantee scope. Significant color departures — such as a wrong hair color or fundamentally different skin tone — are fully covered.
06 Weddings, Pets & Special Occasions
Q42 — [Pet] How do you capture the expression and fur texture of a deceased pet from photos alone?

Pet memorial figurines receive some of our most careful artistic attention. Our Digital Sculptors study your photographs to capture each animal's unique posture, expression, and coat characteristics. WJP printing renders gradient fur color transitions and fine texture with a fidelity no hand-painting can match. See our Pet Memorial Figurine page for examples.

Q43 — [Pet + Owner] I want the owner squatting to interact with their pet. How is size calculated for a dynamic pose?

When an interactive pose is involved (crouching, kneeling, leaning), the person's size tier is calculated based on their equivalent standing height — not the compressed posture height. This ensures the correct resin volume and structural support are allocated, and maintains proportional harmony between the human and pet figures in the finished piece.

Q44 — [Wedding] Which size should I choose for a wedding cake topper?

We have calibrated our sizes specifically for cake proportions. See our Size Guide for a visual reference:

  • 12 cm — Ideal for intimate weddings or smaller 1–2 tier cakes.
  • 15 cm (Most Loved) — Engineered for the classic 6-inch top tier of a 3-tier cake. Proportions designed to show off fine lace detail.
  • 18 cm — Suited for grand 4+ tier cakes and large banquet venue presentations.
Q45 — [Occupation] Can you recreate a specific uniform, graduation gown, or professional attire?

Yes. For the most accurate result, we strongly recommend providing a photo of the person actually wearing the uniform or gown. Asking us to invent clothing drape and body fit from a casual photo significantly increases revision rounds and may incur additional custom modeling fees.

Q46 — Can I have a name, date, or personal message engraved on the base?

Yes. Base engraving significantly enhances the memorial or commemorative value of the piece. Enter the desired text in your order notes — we recommend keeping inscriptions under 20 characters for optimal layout. The engraving will be shown in your 3D digital preview before printing.

Q47 — [Anniversary] I want to give my partner a surprise figurine for our anniversary. What should I know?

Anniversary commissions are our second most popular scenario. Consider these options to make it truly memorable:

  • Recreate the outfit from a meaningful moment — first date, engagement, or vacation.
  • Choose an interactive pose: holding hands, a gentle embrace, facing each other.
  • Add a base inscription with a date or short phrase meaningful to both of you.

Order from our Couples & Wedding page and allow at least 3–4 weeks for comfortable delivery.

Q48 — [Bust vs Full-body] What is the difference, and which is right for me?
  • Portrait Bust — captures the face from shoulder upward at greater facial detail intensity. Preferred for executive portraits, memorial commissions, and cases where facial likeness is the primary goal.
  • Full-body Figurine — captures the complete person: posture, clothing, footwear, and proportions. Preferred for wedding cake toppers, anniversary gifts, and occasions where a complete moment in time is being preserved.

Choose a Bust to honor someone's face. Choose a Full-body to immortalize a specific moment.

Q49 — [Memorial] I only have one old photograph of a family member who has passed. Can you create a memorial figurine?
  1. We apply pixel enhancement and restoration techniques to the original photograph.
  2. Sculptors manually reconstruct missing detail — hidden profile angles, ear structure, hairstyle — with careful artistic judgment.
  3. The 3D preview allows you to provide feedback until the portrait feels right.

We cannot promise perfection from a single photograph. We can promise that every pixel is approached with complete respect for the person being remembered.

07 Guarantees & Returns
Q50 — Can I cancel my order and get a full refund?

A full, unconditional refund is available any time before the order enters the Modeling Refinement stage. Once our sculptors begin your model, bespoke labor has been committed and cancellation is not possible. Our Free Revisions and Design Guarantee exist precisely to ensure you are protected once that threshold is crossed.

Q51 — I already approved the design proof. Can I still request changes mid-production?

Customer Confirmation is the point of no return by design. The moment you approve the proof, your exclusive data is transmitted directly to the WJP industrial printer — physical production is immediate and irreversible. This is why we consistently encourage our clients: be as exacting as you need to be before you confirm.

Q52 — The figurine matches my approved proof, but I feel the likeness could be stronger. What are my options?

Because the physical piece matches the 3D proof you personally approved, this situation falls outside the scope of our Design Guarantee. We understand this can be disappointing. Please contact our Customer Success team — while a free remake is not available in this case, we will do our utmost to offer a meaningful resolution.

Q53 — How long do I have to report a problem after receiving my package?

You have a 7-day protection window from the date of signed receipt. Whether the issue is transit damage or a significant physical discrepancy from your approved proof, send us clear photographs within 7 days and we will initiate the free remake process immediately.

Q54 — I'm a first-time buyer and worried about the outcome. What assurances do I have?
  1. See before we print — you approve a 360° 3D digital proof before a single layer is printed.
  2. Unlimited free revisions — no limit, no charge, until you are genuinely satisfied.
  3. Design Guarantee — if the physical piece differs significantly from your approved proof, we remake it free.
  4. 7-day protection period — report any damage within a week of delivery for immediate resolution.
  5. Installment payment — split your order into 4 interest-free payments via Shop Pay or Klarna.

Your only task is uploading a clear photograph. We carry the rest.

08 Corporate Gifts & Bulk Orders
Q55 — Do you accept bulk orders for corporate awards, team events, or executive retirement gifts?

This is one of our strongest business sectors. Custom 3D figurines convey a message no conventional corporate gift can: "you matter enough to deserve something made specifically for you." Whether honoring an Employee of the Year, commemorating an executive's tenure, or producing event trophies that generate genuine social sharing — we handle it.

Volume pricing is available for orders of 5 or more pieces. Visit our Corporate Gifts page or contact us with your quantity, timeline, and packaging requirements for a dedicated quote.

Q56 — Does a large bulk order take significantly longer? What does the process look like?

Our production infrastructure scales well. Even for a team order of 50 pieces, we insist on providing an individual 3D design preview and Customer Confirmation step for every single person — no batch shortcuts. A dedicated account manager coordinates the entire workflow, from photo collection to bulk delivery, typically within 3–5 weeks.

09 Brand Trust & Privacy
Q57 — Are the private photos and facial data I upload kept secure?

Completely. All uploaded images are handled exclusively within a secure internal environment by our dedicated sculpting team. Without your explicit written authorization, we will never use your photographs or finished figurines for any social media, marketing, or commercial display purpose. Your memories are yours.

Q58 — What fundamentally sets 3D Portrait Lab apart from other custom figurine sellers?

Most of the custom figurine market optimizes for low cost and high volume: automated generation, rough surface painting, minimal human oversight. We made the opposite choice.

Every figurine passes through skilled human hands for manual sculpting, detail refinement, and quality review — before reaching WJP printing at ±0.1 mm precision. Color is cured into the resin, not painted on. We offer unlimited revisions because we are not finished until you are. We print nothing without your explicit approval.

The result — that weighted, warm, photorealistic piece in your hands — is the difference between a souvenir and an heirloom.

Q59 — Where can I find genuine customer reviews and unboxing videos?
  1. Product page reviews — verified photo reviews from global customers at the bottom of every product page on 3dportraitlab.com.
  2. Trustpilot — independently verified ratings and written testimonials.
  3. Social media — search #3DPortraitLab on Instagram and TikTok for authentic unboxing moments: brides seeing their wedding lace perfectly replicated, families moved to tears holding a miniature of their late companion.
10 Size & Gift Guide
Q60 — I'm not sure which size to choose. What is the difference between 12 cm, 15 cm, and 18 cm?

See our Size Guide for a full visual comparison. In brief:

  • 12 cm — Compact desk or shelf display. Best for minimalist spaces or smaller cake toppers. Most accessible price point.
  • 15 cm (Most Popular) — The golden ratio. Clothing texture, individual hair strands, and facial micro-expressions are all fully rendered and visible.
  • 18 cm — For family group portraits, executive display pieces, or collectors wanting maximum visual presence. Detail expression at this scale is more than twice that of the 12 cm.

When in doubt, choose 15 cm.

Q61 — I want to give this as a gift but I'm not sure the recipient will appreciate it. Any advice?

There is no other gift in the world made from the recipient's own face. Nobody declines seeing themselves — or someone they love — rendered in three dimensions with this level of artistry.

Note "Gift" in the order notes and we remove all pricing and add gift-ready presentation packaging.

Q62 — I want to recreate a 10-year-old family photo with 5 people. Is that possible, and how does it work?
  1. Provide the original group photo to establish relative positions and overall composition.
  2. Add individual clear frontal portraits of each family member for precise facial accuracy per person.
  3. Note your preferences: which outfits to recreate, composition changes, base engraving wishes.

Family groups of 3 or more receive an automatic 15% group discount. Order via our Family Portrait page. A dedicated coordinator will be assigned to your project.

11 Gift Ideas & Occasions
Q63 — What makes a 3D figurine a meaningful retirement gift?

A retirement gift faces an impossible brief: honor years of contribution with something that lasts as long as the memory itself. A custom 3D figurine — perhaps in their professional uniform, base engraved with their name and tenure — says exactly that: "every year you gave here deserves to be permanent."

  • Portrait Bust — formal and dignified; suited to office or study display.
  • Full-body in uniform — more personal; captures the whole person at their professional peak.

Corporate orders of 5+ pieces qualify for volume pricing via our Corporate Gifts page.

Q64 — What is the difference between a wedding cake topper and a standard couples figurine? Can I get both?
  • Wedding Cake Topper — scaled and proportioned specifically for cake placement (12–18 cm). Features an integrated cake-insert base structure. Pose options calibrated for classic wedding compositions.
  • Couples Figurine — broader pose options, standalone display base, designed as a permanent home décor piece.

Many couples order both: the cake topper for the wedding day, and a couples figurine for permanent home display. Contact us before checkout to enquire about bundle pricing.

Q65 — I'm overseas. Can I ship the figurine directly to a family member in another country?

Yes — this is a fully supported scenario. Enter the recipient's complete delivery address (including postal code and phone number) at checkout. Our DDP shipping model means the recipient pays zero customs duties or clearance fees upon delivery.

We ship to the US, Europe, UK, Canada, Australia, and most countries globally. Orders of $149+ ship free with full tracking via DHL, FedEx, or UPS. Track your shipment anytime on our dedicated tracking page. For any specific destination questions, contact us before ordering.
